Participating in Toxic's Reporting

In the past two decades, pulp and paper mills have taken measures to reduce levels of toxins that are emitted as a by-product of manufacturing pulp and paper products. These steps were voluntarily taken to lessen the impact of the manufacturing process on the environment.

In 2002, the Environmental Protection Agency will publish information for the first time about the production of toxins (specifically, dioxin and dioxin-like products) by the pulp and paper industry. The information was gathered from the industry's year 2000 activities. The public has access to the information via the EPA's annual Toxic's Release Inventory (TRI).
